Abstract
In situ carcinoma has been defined by the UICC as pre-invasive carcinoma; it may occur in flat urothelium which appears “normal” or has formed a proliferative tumour which may be described as papillary or papilliferous. This may lead to confusion since, in pathological terms, tumours of either site can be reported as PIS (Wallace et al, 1975). However, these two forms appear to be significantly different and in this paper we examine these differences.
