Abstract

Not long ago, Margaret Mead came to the White House to talk to me about my interest as a volunteer and citizen advocate for mental health and my job as honorary chairperson of the President’s Commission on Mental Health. She has so much knowledge and so much feeling. I have admired her for years, and I was pleased to have the chance to benefit from her wisdom.

This chapter originally was an address delivered to the World Federation for Mental Health Congress, Vancouver, B.C., Canada, August 24, 1977.
