Application of the Thermal (n,γ) Reaction to Elemental Analysis

  • Chapter
Neutron Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy

Abstract

A search of the literature now reveals well over 100 articles dealing with the use the (n,γ) reaction for elemental analysis. Techniques have been developed for application to such diverse problems as monitoring process streams, determination of bulk compositions of glasses, concretes, and alloys, on-line determination of sulfur in oil and coal, major element analysis in biological and environmental materials, minerals exploration through borehole logging, and others. Specific applications have greatly multiplied since the development of high-resolution solid state detectors.
