The period of adulthood has for many years been regarded as a phase of stabilization in the development process, which separates the period of “progressive development” from senescence. This conception of adulthood has also been applied to determine nutritional requirements and motor activity. Standards reflecting the physiological requirements have usually been determined according to only the body weight and degree of physical activity.
