This book presents a strategy for pattern recognition in a difficult area of observation, that of human nature, personal problems, and psychological change. This strategy, which is called configurational analysis, aims at clarification of psychological life. The approach is to segmentalize behavior and experience into states that recur; these states are then explained in terms of the structure of meanings and the processes of change.
