Application of Three-Body Techniques to Pion-Nucleus Scattering

Abstract

There is a considerable number of nuclear physicists who would argue that the title of these lectures is very misleading. In particular, the few-body problem has long been considered a small, very specialized, area of nuclear physics that could safely be ignored by the majority. I will have succeeded in my task if in the course of this presentation I can convince you that in pion physics, the pion few-nucleon system has provided several striking theoretical insights, and may continue to do so.
