Abstract
I wish to begin this lecture with a quotation from Elliott Lieb [Lieb, 1976]
“Thus, while Eq. (6) (the Heisenberg principle) is correct it is a pale reflection of the power of the operator — Δ to prevent collapse”.
The purpose of this lecture is, in effect, to encourage a genuine appreciation of this statement. With this in mind, let me define the system and state the problem.
Sections II.B, III.C, D, E, and IV.B, C, D of this paper report mostly unpublished work, some of which, incorporated in Sections II.C, IV.C and IV.D, result from stimulating discussions with participants at the Institute.
