Melt Rheology and Processability of Polyethylenes

  • Chapter
Polymer Processing and Properties

Abstract

The modern methods of the elongational viscosity, ne, measurement have been developed during the last 30 years (1). In spite of a fair number of publications on the subject (2–6), the importance of the elongational flow in plastics processing so far has not been adequately realized by the industry. In this paper the correlation between the dynamic, shear and the uniaxial extensional viscosities of commercial polyethylenes, PE, is examined. In addition, the extrudability of these resins is analyzed.
