Positive and Negative Shear of the Vinyl Chloride

Abstract

The paper deals with a special mechanical behaviour of the vinyl chloride in the orientated shear. On the basis of the results of theoretical and experimental investigations, the author has made the conclusion that there are two different kinds of the opposite shear stresses which represent, in some manner, an analogy to two opposite kinds of normal stresses, i.e. to the tension and compression. He has called them the positive and negative shear. In this way, a physical meaning has been attributed to the sense and orientation of shear stresses.
