Reversibility and Capacity of Different Energy Storage Reactions by Calorimetry

  • Chapter
Analytical Calorimetry

Abstract

Solar and nuclear energies are the most interesting energies to be stored. Up-to-now, different types of energy storage have been tested, and some are practically used, especially for house heating. All the types of calories recuperation which are under study, are connected with the Idea of reaction reversibility: melting — solidification for the latent heat storage, dehydration-hydration and absorption-desorption for the reaction heat storage, solid-solid transition for the transition heat storage… But the efficiency of the chemical materials used in energy storage is very variable. The heat stored by means of a reaction in a chemical system is much larger than a melting heat. A precise investigation of the different parameters which determine the reversibility and capacity of energy storage systems, is needed before an industrial application of such or such chemical system.
