Abstract

Violent ion-atom collisions resulting in the excitation of inner-shell electrons have been studied theoretically and experimentally for many years. Some limiting cases have been studied extensively, specifying collision parameters such as the collision energy and the atomic numbers of the projectile (Z1) and the target (Z2). Most of the early work was related to light-particle impact at moderately low collision energies.
