Abstract

Malignant neoplasms are a major cause of mortality in children between 1 and 14 years of age. The death rate due to cancer was 45 per million children aged 1–4 years, and 43 per million children aged 5–14 years in 1980 82. Accidents and congenital anomalies were responsible for more deaths in the younger age group, whereas only accidents were a more frequent cause of death in the older age group (Table 1).
