Abstract
The term ‘Burkitt’s lymphoma’ (BL) connotes a specific morphologic appearance which has been well described [1]. However, the boundaries of this entity from other related B-cell lymphomas, especially the small non-cleaved or undifferentiated non-Burkitt lymphomas, remain a matter of debate [2–4]. Morphologic differences between the two types of small non-cleaved lymphoma, Burkitt and non-Burkitt, as defined by the ‘Working Formulation for Clinical Use’ [5], are diversely appreciated by different investigators and even by the same investigator, upon repeated examinations [6]. Furthermore, the apparently specific translocation [8,14] (q 24; q 32) has been found in non-Burkitt’s types, large non-cleaved and immunoblastic lymphomas [7–9], suggesting the possibility of a polymorphous expression of Burkitt’s lymphomas.
