When evaluating thromboembolism, survival and complication data from different studies, we must look closely at the sampling of patients because there are going to be problems in evaluating the data. When the patient sample is small and when individuals within each sample are at varying degrees of risk, these factors will affect the results. These are the likely causes for the disparity in results that have been presented at this symposium and a comparison of data with different prosthetic brands or models, even from the same center, is going to result in some inconsistency of data.
