Workshop Reports: Some Considerations on Spectra Induced by Intermolecular Interactions in Molecular Solids and Amorphous Systems

Abstract

In many solids we can only observe the absorption or the scattering of radiation induced by intermolecular interactions. This is the case of solid systems composed either of homonuclear diatomic molecules, of monatomic molecules and many other molecular solids. However, in the past 25 years collision induced spectroscopy (CIS) has not been intensively employed to study molecular solids, except for hydrogen and its isotopes. In this field, fundamental information on intermolecular properties has been obtained and this matter has been extensively reviewed (Silvera, 1980; Van Kranendonk, 1983).
