Environmental Alteration of Insecticide Residues

  • Chapter
Toxicology of Insecticides

Abstract

From the viewpoint of environmental toxicologists, the disappearance of insecticide residues in their original form at a given location does not mean the end of the problem. Rather, the problem starts there. The question is whether such disappearance means actual degradation of the hazardous chemical or whether it is actually a signal that the insecticide has been translocated for, say, bioconcentration into some ecosystem or converted into more dangerous chemicals.
