Abstract
This chapter is concerned with human information processing in the specific context of language comprehension. The latter, in turn, is one aspect of the general process of human perception which includes visual, aural, somesthetic, and even emotive processes. We will provide a survey of studies in language perception and draw some conclusions concerning the activity of building computer models for language comprehension, with obvious implications for information science (e.g., communication with databases) and for artificial intelligence.
