Abstract
The epithelial cell matrix of the thymus, which is involved in the generation of T lymphocyte immunocompetence, shows considerable (cytological) heterogeneity. This phenomenon has been well-established in ultrastructural morphology (this issue, p 288),2 but also in expression of thymic hormone components in the cytoplasm.3 We started the analysis of the thymic microenvironment for antigenic heterogeneity by raising monoclonal antibodies to thymus stromal cells.
