Abstract

In this chapter, we will outline a cognitive approach to the treatment of clinical depression. In particular, we will focus on cognitive therapy (Beck, 1970; Beck, Rush, Shaw, & Emery, 1979), a time-limited, focused intervention targeted at changing the maladaptive beliefs and dysfunctional attitudes posited by cognitive theorists to be causal and/or maintaining factors in depression.
