Abstract

An examination of any human behavior pattern faces five immediate problems of some magnitude:
  1. 1.

Whom are you going to study—that is, who are your subjects?

  2. 2.

Where are you going to study your subjects?

  3. 3.

Is your method of research influencing the character of the data that are being gathered on your subjects, in this instance man-child dyads? Framed in a different way, are you viewing behavior reflecting your subjects’ own priorities, agendas, and decisions or are you viewing behavior which is reacting to your scientific intrusion?

  4. 4.

What behaviors are to be coded, and at what level of coarseness or refinement?

  5. 5.

From what perspective or vantage point will the collected data be organized and interpreted?
