Simplified Approaches to the HPLC Determination of Drugs in Biological Samples

  • Chapter
Drug Determination in Therapeutic and Forensic Contexts

Part of the book series: Methodological Surveys in Biochemistry and Analysis ((ANAY,volume 14))

Abstract

The simplest approach to sample preparation for HPLC is centrifugation and/or filtration of the sample, followed by direct injection onto the column. This is particularly suitable for drugs which are not bound to the matrix, and where concentrations are well above the limit of detection. An example of this approach is the analysis of cephradine in urine (1–100 µg/ml), as reported from this laboratory in an earlier volume of this series [l]. Another example of direct injection (sometimes with pre-dilution) is a reported assay for cefmenoxime in urine [2].
