Abstract
Research dedicated to finding and developing new antipsychotic drugs focuses on effective, well compatible substances which should produce a valid antipsychotic effect in lowest possible dosage. Cis(Z)-clopenthixol is the antipsychotically effective isomer of clopenthixol, which in turn represents a mixture of trans(E)-clopen-thixol and cis(Z)-clopenthixol (Gravem, Elgen, 1981). The antipsychotic effect of cis(Z)-clopenthixol is obtained with half the dosage of clopenthixol, i.e. these two substances have a dosage-ratio of 1:2. In the present double-blind study, effect and compatibility of cis(Z)-clopenthixol and haloperidol have been compared.
