Abstract
The basic skeleton of all carbamate insecticides is the hypothetical carbamic acid, the monoamide of carbon dioxide having the following structure:
The carbamic acid can be stabilized by esterification with alkyl or aryl alcohols to form simple alkyl or aryl esters such as ethyl carbamate or phenylcarbamate commonly known as ethylurethane and phenylurethane.
