Use and Reuse of Dialyzers in Europe

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Developments in Nephrology ((DINE,volume 15))

Abstract

The European Dialysis and Transplant Association—European Renal Association (EDTA—ERA) Registry collects data on patients receiving treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) throughout Europe. Annual returns from 32 countries are made to the Registry by means of both a center and individual patient questionnaire. For the past 13 years, detailed information on use and reuse of dialyzers has been included in the patient questionnaire. Clinicians are asked to record the code number for the type of dialyzer most frequently used during the previous 12 months, and state the number of reuses, if any, achieved on average by each individual patient. The Registry currently maintains codes for over 300 different types of dialyzers, as well as separate codes for hemofilters.
