Dietary Fat and Mammary Carcinogenesis

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Developments in Oncology ((DION,volume 43))

Abstract

Nutritional modification of mammary carcinogenesis has been a growing area of research in the past decade because of the increasing awareness that dietary deficiencies, excesses, and imbalances can play an important role in the pathogenesis of cancer. This chapter will attempt to summarize the effects of dietary fat on the development of mammary tumors in laboratory animals. Because of limited space, a comprehensive treatment of the subject has to be sacrificed; hopefully, it will not be at the expense of succinctness and relevance. My approach is to focus on certain significant observations in this area of research, and where appropriate, to weave in some pertinent data from our laboratory.
