Abstract
This paper provides an overview of the industrial instrumentation scene. In any technology, commercial factors have a powerful influence on the direction of new developments. This paper gives useful perspectives on some economic aspects of instrumentation, and of the distribution of instruments within industries, techniques and measurands.
