Hippocampal Morphometry in the Rat: Age-Related Changes and Modulation by Chronic Dietary Choline Enrichment

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Advances in Behavioral Biology ((ABBI,volume 29))

Abstract

In an accompanying paper in this volume (Van der Staay et al., 1985) we reported on positive behavioral effects of chronic dietary choline enrichment in a spatial discrimination task and in a passive avoidance task. An age-related decline of performance was found in the spatial discrimination task, but not in the passive avoidance task. The absence of age differences in passive avoidance behavior appears to be a strain-related phenomenon since an age-related decline in performance has been shown to exist in other strains of rats and in mice.
