Abstract
It has been known for years that chemical neurotoxins produce alterations of axonal morphology similar to those in some human diseases. Recently, it has been discovered that several of these agents have a specific effect on slow axonal transport and on the organization of the axonal cytoskeleton (Sayre et al., 1985). Therefore, they have become valuable probes for investigating functional and structural aspects of the normal axon as well as the pathogenesis of axonal lesions.
