Abstract

The focus of this chapter will be the geometry and the electronic structure of polyatomic molecules outside metal surfaces. The essential new feature here is obviously molecular conformation. Does benzene remain planar hexagonal on a particular face of tungsten? Is the water H—O—H angle changed from its free-space value when chemisorbed on ruthenium?(82) How does ethene behave on noble and transition metals? (83)
