Abstract
Epidemiologic studies indicate that dietary factors play an important role in the etiology of colorectal cancer (Wynder and Reddy, 1974). This suggests that its incidence can be reduced by dietary alterations in countries like the U.S. where the incidence is high. The questions that need an answer are: What changes in the diet are required to reduce the risk of developing cancer? Second, can such a diet be nutritionally adequate and at the same time acceptable to the general public?
