Abstract
Any study of urinary tract stone disease must include some basic understanding of the multifaceted events which contribute to the final formation of urinary stones. Although this sounds like a rather simple concept, the series of chemical, physical chemical, physical, physiological, and biochemical events in the formation of stones are numerous and frequently interrelated. This chapter is an attempt to define some of these events, and to highlight some of the criteria that should be included in any study on urolithiasis.
