Abstract

The dramatic improvements in patient survival following treatment for even advanced stages of nonseminomatous germ cell testicular tumors (NSGCTT) with multiagent combination chemotherapy and surgery including primary retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) and debulking procedures have given rise to legitimate questions of how much, or more accurately, how little therapy is required for low stages of disease. Recently clinical trials of observation alone following orchiectomy for clinical stage A NSGCTT have been in progress. This article will review the data from those trials and pose a number of questions regarding optimal management of this disease.
