An Analysis of Natural Language Dialogue

  • Robert E. Frederking
Part of the The Kluwer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science book series (SECS, volume 41)

This book presents a view of dialogue as an ongoing, continuous action involving two participants, rather than as a series of separate actions by one participant. In preparation for understanding how intersentential ellipsis and other dialogue phenomena can be understood from this point of view, this chapter analyzes these phenomena on the basis of what type of processing they require.
