Abstract
This chapter deals only briefly with the general geochemistry of gold and with the geological and geochemical setting of its varied types of deposits. The text is intended only as a background for understanding the chapters that follow. Details should be sought in the various monographs and papers recorded in the selected bibliographies listed at the end of this and later chapters.
