Electron-Phonon Interaction in Two-Dimensional Systems: Polaron Effects and Screening

  • Chapter
The Physics of the Two-Dimensional Electron Gas

Abstract

The polaron concept, as originally proposed by Landau to describe an electron (or hole) dressed with a cloud of virtual LO-phonons, has been useful both to describe the physical properties of charge carriers in ionic crystals and in polar semiconductors and as a field theoretical model.
