This paper describes the first phase of a project which is focused on the investigation of feasibility and utility of information processing aids and tools based on associative semantics and word association techniques. Emphasis is placed on the potential utility of such aids for online information searching and retrieval in more complex cases, such as browsing, for which the present methods are either not adequate or completely ineffective. The construction of one kind of such aids, henceforth called “Term Association Thesauri” or, briefly, TAThesaurus, is described in some detail.
