Abstract
Work organizations in the United States have been buffeted by significant change in their environments during the past few years. There is reason to believe that these changes in technological, competitive, regulatory, and social domains will continue to present critical challenges to organizations. An important task for any firm under these circumstances is to develop managers who are capable of leading the organization through this turbulence, adapting to uncertainty, and creating change internally in anticipation of change to come from without.
