Structure of a Fluorinated Nonionic O/W Microemulsion

  • Chapter

Abstract

Small angle neutron scattering has been used to study some O/W fluorinated microemulsions. We report some results concerning the ternary mixture: water + C6F13CH2(EO)5 + perfluorodecalin, for temperatures between 15°C and 40°C. We find a rapid change of the shape of the aggregates at low concentration, transforming from rod-like particles to oblate globules. Details on the structure of the interfacial film are also given, as regards the hydration rate, the conformation of the surfactant and the penetration of the oil.
