Abstract
The premature infant with RDS requires continuous evaluation of its respiratory status as determined by arterial blood gas (ABG) measurements to make possible appropriate adjustments of ventilator pressures, FiO2, rates, and I/E ratios and to determine when it is appropriate to switch from intermittent positive-pressure breathing (IPPB) to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP).
