Abstract
This chapter briefly reviews visual acuity-associated problems and methods of testing. A classification and discussion is presented including causes of visual loss, such as congenital defects, neurologic disease, inflammation, systemic disease, trauma, and others. The discussion focuses on how visual defects occur and their effect on the development of the child. The special problems encountered in managing the partially sighted or blind child are reviewed.
