Common Behavioral Disorders of Childhood

  • Chapter
Textbook of Developmental Pediatrics

Abstract

Like physical growth and development, behavior develops in stages. What is considered normal at one age may be quite abnormal for another developmental phase, and some behavioral disorders are age specific. The problems that prompt parents to seek the physician’s help range from the truly pathological to those that are normal or that can be changed by simple manipulations of the environment. Some of these problems may also reflect variations in the child’s temperament, an area that has received considerable study in recent years.
