Activation Analysis Methods

  • Alan L. Huddleston

Total-body and partial-body neutron activation analysis (TBNAA; PBNAA) and partial-body proton activation analysis (PBPAA) have been used to measure total-body calcium. However, only a few laboratories are able to perform these procedures because of the requirements for the appropriate particle sources and the need to detect extremely low levels of activated elements within the human body. Total-body activation analysis systems are expensive and require significant expertise for operation. Partial-body systems involve somewhat less complication and expense.
