Is Salvage Prostatectomy a Benefit?

Abstract

Salvage prostatectomy is a term used for the surgical removal of localized prostatic carcinoma after failure of radiation therapy. Within the last six years we have approached selected patients who have failed definitive radiation therapy as possible candidates for this surgery. Herein we will discuss the rationale for this approach, the problems encountered during these surgical procedures, and the outcome of patients to address especially the benefits from quality of life from this surgical procedure.
