The Effect of Permethrin Impregnated Nets on Phlebotomus (Diptera: Psychodidae) in Central Italy

  • Chapter
Leishmaniasis

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSA,volume 171))

Summary

Permethrin impregnated nets over CDC light traps and as window-net in a stable were used in four localities of Central Italy to test the effectiveness against Phlebotomus perfiliewi (Diptera: Pshychodidae). The results on CDC light traps of pooled catches for each replicate of the four localites show that there is a very significant difference between the catches in the treated and untreated traps (untreated = 1,312, treated = 750 : X2 = 152. 63 p ≪ 0.001). The data of window-net experiment also clearly indicated the effectiveness of permethrin in reducing the flies entering the building (1,696 untreated, 185 treated; X2 = 366 p ≪ 0.001).
