Abstract

The use of glass to meet some of our everyday requirements can be traced far back into history. Because of its traditional base, it is perceived by some consumers as old-fashioned and therefore incapable of adapting to modern life, whilst at the same time resisting change. The real situation is the absolute reverse. The glass industry is still vibrant and by changing and adapting modern technology to reduce costs and increase quality and reliability, it is improving its image in the market place with innovative product design, presentation and the development of new glass-based packaging systems.
