Dislocations in the Charge Density Wave State of NbSe3

An earlier lecture [1] provided a brief introduction to dislocations in charge-density waves (CDWs), and to their role in phase-slip near current terminals in NbSe3. In the present lecture we shall consider whether dislocations may be important also in the motion of the bulk CDW, far from the terminals. As the applied field E there is practically uniform, the stress acting on dislocations in the bulk CDW, other than that associated with the terminals, arises from non-uniformity in the forces due to pinning.
