Abstract
Recent interest in nephron-sparing surgery for renal cell carcinoma has been stimulated by advances in renal imaging, improved surgical techniques, the increasing number of incidentally discovered low-stage renal cell carcinomas and good long-term survival in patients undergoing this form of treatment [1]. Nephron-sparing surgery entails complete local excision of a renal tumor while leaving the largest possible amount of normal functioning parenchyma in the involved kidney.
