Rovibrational Threshold Structures in e-HCl and e-HF Collisions

Abstract

Rovibrational excitations of HCl and HF by low energy (0.3 eV to 5.5 eV) electron impact have been measured in a cross beam apparatus in the angular range from 15° to 135°. Rather strong rotational excitations are observed in the threshold peak in the v = 1 channel with jt = 0,1,2 and minor contributions from jt = 3 and 4. Non-isotropic angular distributions have been obtained right at threshold, also indicating participation of mostly s-, p,- and d-waves.

In the vibrationally elastic channel below the cusp due to the v = 1 channel no Feshbach-type resonance structure has been found.
