Abstract
Across the phylogenetic spectrum, from single-celled organisms to man, no abilities vary more dramatically than our ability to think, to reason, to remember, and to process information. This is fundamental to the management of our most unique capability, the system of language, which makes possible both abstract concept manipulations and interpersonal communications. Thinking as we do—with language concepts—allows us to know, to understand, to study, to reason, and to anticipate future events with complexities far more effectively than any other organism.
