Abstract

In concluding this book, we would like to make some summaries and give our opinion concerning the prospects for further development of the theory. We might hope that the material presented may serve as a basis for developing the macroscopic theory of electromigration, making it possible to describe the motion in an electric field of a substance consisting of individual molecules, dispersed particles, cell organelles, and whole cells. This requires refinement of our information concerning the equations of state for the supporting media, in particular taking into account the plastic properties of different gels and their interaction with an electric field and with the substances to be separated.
